Eve Dress Class

Eve Dress sewing class | Sew Over It | London

The Eve Dress was designed to be wonderfully versatile and easy to wear on a lovely summer’s day. Inspired by both 20’s and 70’s shapes, Eve is elegant and bohemian at the same time. Pretty details such as the fluted sleeve or gathered yoke detail give it a ‘Gatsby’ feel whereas the dipped hem says ‘let’s run around the garden barefoot!’

Make this dress in a soft cotton lawn and she is the perfect day dress, or made out of luxurious crepe she can be evening glam, both so comfy to wear and easy to style. Like all wrap dresses she suits all figure shapes and requires minimal fitting. A winner!

On the class you will get to try on a toile to determine your size before cutting out and altering both the pattern and garment to fit as necessary. At the end of the class you will have both a garment that fits and a pattern to take away with you so you can make as many as you like!

Please note this is not a beginner’s dressmaking class – you will need to have made a couple of garments before. There are quite a lot of techniques to get through so you will need to be able to sew at a good speed.

Cake and tea will be provided to help the sewing process along!

Level: 5

  • Have made various basic garments to a good standard
  • Very familiar with sewing cotton, may have occasionally used drapey or stretchy fabrics
  • Can cut, pin and sew fabric accurately
  • Know how to place and pin patterns on fabric without guidance
  • Can insert an invisible zip and sew darts without guidance

Class length: Two 3 hour sessions

Materials required:

Lightweight woven fabric with some drape like cotton lawn or voile. If you’re feeling adventurous you could try rayon, crepe or georgette.

Please make your first dress out of lightweight cotton unless you are very experienced. We have found that you will get more out of the class if you are not struggling with a difficult fabric for the first time!

Find the perfect fabric on our online fabric shop.

You will need 3m of 140cm wide fabric. This pattern is not suitable for narrower fabrics.

Pattern sizes: 8-22. If you are outside or may be bordering on this range of sizes, please contact us a week before the class as we will need to grade a pattern especially for you. If it is just one size up or down, we will do this free of charge, but if it is more then there may be a small fee.
