Comfortable sewing with lightweight fabrics and now want to master more complex construction techniques? We’re here to help! Choose between our two favourite blouses, the Pussy Bow and the Anderson, and make yourself a new wardrobe staple.
Pussy Bow Blouse
One of Lisa’s favourites, the Pussy Bow Blouse is a classic design that will always be in style. It looks great with our Ultimate Pencil Skirt for a smart office look, or the Ultimate Trousers for a more casual feel.
With two different style options you can choose between a v-neck version or a keyhole opening. Stylish and versatile, it’s perfect for the office but can be dressed up for a night out.
You will learn how to create and insert sleeves, sew pretty gathered cuffs with button loop closure, as well as how to attach a neck tie.
2.5m of lightweight drapey fabric such as rayon, silk, chiffon, georgette, or crepe de chine. We have the perfect fabric available on our online fabric shop.
Based on the iconic silk blouses worn by Gillian Anderson in hit series The Fall, the Anderson blouse is a glamorous classic. You can wear it tucked in for a city slick look or loose for a more casual vibe. Our sample is made from polyester crepe de chine but you can bring anything from rayon to silk to chiffon (depending on your sewing level!).
The blouse has a wrap front and fastens with drawstring closure. You will learn how to sew pleats, insert sleeves, attach cuffs and facings and work with slippery fabrics!
If 115cm wide fabric: 2.6m
If 140cm wide fabric: 1.8m
If 115cm wide fabric: 2.8m
If 140cm wide fabric: 2.5m
In terms of fabric type, we recommend a lightweight fabric with a lot of drape for this blouse, such as satin, crepe de chine, sandwashed silk or rayon. We have the perfect fabric available on our online fabric shop.
We have labelled this an intermediate dressmaking class, because it has a couple of tricky parts. If you have no experience of sewing with lightweight drapey fabrics and are a bit nervous, you could first try a project such as the cami top in our Intro to Drapey Fabrics class, which has an easier construction, so you can get used to working with lighter weights.
Cake and tea are provided to help the sewing process along!
