Exciting news! Today we’re releasing our beloved Betty Dress pattern out into the world!
As I’m sure that you have already realised, I love the fashion of the fifties and sixties. So it was no surprise that when I first watched Mad Men I fell in love with Betty Draper’s wardrobe. And this in turned inspired me to design a dress in honour of her style.
This was one of the first classes I designed for Sew Over It, when it launched in May 2011 and her popularity has never waned. I guess it is a timeless classic and one that suits many a figure in my opinion. If you have an hourglass shape it will enhance it, and if you don’t then if gives you a waist. You can’t go wrong with Betty. I wore a pink gingham Betty to the launch party, a dress that will always have such sentimental value to me.
I always envisaged Betty to be made out of cotton but she has also proved to look great in silk, crepe, jersey and tartan.
She is also up for making friends with other patterns…. the bodice can be matched up with other skirts and vice versa for the skirt. She is such a versatile pattern.
So I thought, it was about time to release her out into the wild and I am so excited to see all the wonderful versions you make. You can get your hands on a copy in our Clapham shop or online on our website.

I hope you enjoy her like I have. And to celebrate her release I will be wearing one of my favourite Betty’s every day of the week (I have a wardrobe full of them now!). Follow #7dayswithbetty on my Instagram this week.
