This fabulous shirt dress will be a great addition to your wardrobe for Spring/Summer 2016. Depending on the fabric used it can look both casual or smart and of course wonderfully stylish. Worn with a petticoat underneath gives it a more vintage 50s look or without it could be from the 40s.
In the class you will alter your pattern so that it fits your measurements, learn how to attach a collar, sew pleats, create sleeve turn-ups,mark and sew button holes, and work with more complicated facings. You will leave with a pattern and dress that fits you.
Please note this is one of our more advanced classes, so we will expect you to have experience in dressmaking. There will be some homework in between the classes (but nothing too tricky).
Cake and tea will be provided to help the sewing process along!
Class length: Three 3 hour sessions
Materials required: You will need 3.5m of woven fabric, from lightweight cotton to drapier fabrics such as crepe. Remember the slippier your fabric the harder it is to sew so you may want to stick with cotton for your first attempt.
We have the perfect fabric available on our online shop
Patttern sizes: 8-20. If you are outside or may be bordering on this range of sizes, please contact us a week before the class as we will need to grade a pattern especially for you. If it is just one size up or down, we will do this free of charge, but if it is more then there may be a small fee.
Maximum number of people in a class: 6
Teacher: Julie Johnston
