Howdy all! I am sorry I have been a little slow and writing this next post. Sew Over It has gone a little crazy – in a good way! I have been working on the schedule for our pop-up shop (29th Oct – Nov 10th) in Camden. So exciting. It will be a customising bar for two weeks, where you will be able to do customising workshops, buy customising materials, drop in and customise and buy customised vintage clothes. Anyways, more to follow……
So my sewing machine has been neglected. But I did manage to squeeze in a few more cushions for my flat (you know I just can’t have enough) and this dress…..
This is our Joan dress pattern, just without the neck tie.
I lucked out with the fabric. A very lovely man dropped some fabric remnants off at the shop that he didn’t want and this was one of them. It is a soft furnishing fabric really but the moment I saw it I knew what it was destined for. It does remind me a little of wallpaper but what the hell.
I wanted it to be an end of the summer, carry me through to autumn dress so I didn’t line it so keep it a bit lighter. I figured I could just wear it with a slip in autumn.
Interestingly the fit wasn’t perfect when I made it up. The hips were a little roomy which is strange as I have made two other versions of this dress and not needed to make any changes. And I haven’t lost any weight (we have a new baker so I have been eating cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner – I have to sample it!) I think it is because the fabric is more structured that it is more apparent. So I whipped in the side seams after and now it fits great.
I wore it the other day with lace blue tights. I think I might get some royal blue tights for autumn and be a little bit daring in my ‘wallpaper’ dress!
