Floral Pencil Skirt

I have wanted to design a pencil skirt with a little vintage twist but that’s easy to wear for a while.

The high waist was inspired by my Decades of Style trousers, which feel so comfortable to wear.

The rest is quite classic for a pencil skirt….shaped side seams to a narrower hem, a vent at the back (to allow me to walk in a non-penguin fashion) and a facing to finish the waist.

The fabric is from a vintage curtain I picked up on my holiday in Dorset. The weight it perfect for this design. It has enough structure that it doesn’t need lining. I think Maria (Sound of Music) would be proud.

As I was making this I couldn’t help thinking this would be a perfect class for our level 4 ¬†customers. It is a logical step on from Intro to Dressmaking.

It shows an alternative to a skirt with a waistband, it has a concealed zip instead of regular zip…..

You would learn about fitting more closely to the hip as well as the waist and how to sew a vent. So….we will be launching it as a class in the New Year!
