1940s Brunch Coat – Party Style!!

This week was the launch of Tilly‘s new book, Love at First StitchI was kindly invited to an intimate launch party that Tilly’s publishers arranged. (By the way the book is lovely and perfect for beginner dressmakers!) So I thought I better make a new dress in honour.

I am so glad I did as everyone had wonderfully gorgeous handmade dresses on!

I am pretty swamped with my second book at the moment (end of May deadline looming) so it needed to be a quick job. So I thought I would make another brunch coat.

It is so simple and really requires very little fit. I used this fabric I got from Simply Fabrics in Brixton which was a bargain £3 p/m! Because it is drapey and soft you can get away with the dress not being too fitted.

I managed to sew the whole thing up in a couple of hours which was amazing – loving quick sewing projects at the moment. And then I cinched it in with a belt. Done!
