There’s a chill in the air and leaves are starting to turn into eye-catching shades of red and orange. It can only mean one thing – it’s time to switch to an autumn wardrobe, rediscover old favourites and stitch up new makes.
To stay snug and stylish all autumn long we’ve rounded up our wardrobe essentials.
The Ultimate Shift Dress
No capsule wardrobe is complete without a versatile dress, and we don’t think they come much better than our Ultimate Shift Dress (yes, we know we’re biased, but it is called Ultimate for a reason). This beginner-friendly pattern has lots of ways you can make it truly your own, and if you pair it with some black tights and little boots, it’s the perfect autumn look!
The Georgie Dress
If you ask us, one dress is never enough, and we also love wearing the Georgie on autumn walks and for cosy evenings with friends. The wrap style is timeless and flattering. We’ll be making ours with long sleeves and in a heavier knit for extra warmth as the temperatures dip.
The Suraya Jacket
All these dresses need a jacket to go with them and we think the Suraya is the perfect match. Inspired by the classic mac, this versatile jacket can be customised to suit your style. You can add everything from epaulettes, to storm flaps, to a back vent, to welt pockets. It’s a more intricate make but can be simplified by taking out some of the extra details. However you sew it, it’s a real head-turner.
The Peggy Trousers
There are so many ways to wear these paper bag-style trousers that they are a capsule wardrobe essential. Pop them on with a jumper and trainers for a casual look, or a blouse (we’re fans of the Freia or Anderson), the Suraya Jacket and ankle boots for something a little smarter.
The Edie Top
No autumn capsule wardrobe is complete without a longer-sleeved top and the Edie’s elegant 3/4 length sleeves make it just the make for us. With a classic boat neck and fitted body, it’s a super wearable style. It gets bonus points from us because it is simple and easy to make and if you’re more of a dress person then you can even transform it into one too. It’s a win-win.
