Intro to Coats: Chloe Coat Class

Intro to Coats: Chloe Coat Class from Sew Over It

Say hello to your new favourite coat! The Chloe Coat is a stylish, versatile and elegant new addition to the Sew Over It wardrobe. The perfect starting point if you’ve never made a coat before, we’ll introduce you to everything you need to know to make your own beautiful Chloe.

Featuring a princess seamed front, patch pockets, an exposed open-ended zip fastening, optional detachable scarf and full lining, there’s so much to learn in this class. From fitting and altering your pattern to construction and finishing techniques, learn the tips of the trade from our expert teachers.

The Chloe Coat is a true year-round staple – depending on your fabric choice you’ll be able to wear her all the way through from spring to winter. With the pattern’s huge versatility and armed with your new knowledge, you’ll be making loads of these at home after the class is over.

This class is aimed at those of you with some dressmaking experience. Although the jacket isn’t too difficult to make it requires accurate and quick sewing. You will be expected to have made a few other intermediate level dressmaking projects (such as the Vintage Shirt Dress), and have inserted a sleeve, but no previous jacket or coat making is required. The Chloe Coat class is a great starting point if you want to make the Francine Jacket but have never made a coat before.

You will leave with your completed Chloe Coat and a pattern which has been altered to fit you.

Cake and tea will be provided to help the sewing process along!

If you would like to make the detachable scarf then you will need to bring an additional 0.5 metres of fabric.

Note: if you are tall we recommend bring an extra half a metre of your outer fabric and lining in case you want to lengthen your coat.

You will also need a 22″ open ended metal zip, which you can find at MacCulloch & Wallis in Soho or online at William Gee. For an alternative closure you can bring 5-6 large press studs for your Chloe Coat instead of the zip.You will also need a high quality fusible interfacing, which we will have available to buy on the evening at Sew Over It.

You can use lots of different fabrics for the Chloe Coat. Make a wintery version from boiled wool, or a lighter weight jacket from viscose linen, upholstery fabric or lightweight wool. We have the perfect fabrics on our online fabric shop.

Pattern sizes: 8-20. If you are outside or may be bordering on this range of sizes, please contact us a week before the class as we will need to grade a pattern especially for you. If it is just one size up or down, we will do this free of charge, but if it is more then there may be a small fee.
