Come and learn to sew with us in the ultimate beginners sewing class.
Our newly-updated Intro to Sewing course is the ultimate beginner sewing class. Even if you have never seen a sewing machine before, this course will give you the confidence to work on a whole variety of sewing projects. We will start from scratch, showing you how to thread the sewing machine, before building your skills with our three tailor-made projects. Here is how Intro to Sewing is broken down:
On your first day you’ll be welcomed into the Sew Over It gang with a smile. After a cup of tea and a chat about fabrics you’ll settle into your first project; an envelope cushion cover. Sewing up a simple cushion cover will allow you to get comfortable using the sewing machine and handling fabric, all whilst giving you practice on a cute project that you can easily recreate at home.
After a break for lunch you’ll be moving on to making a drawstring. Whilst sewing up a super handy drawstring bag, you’ll be learning how to finish your seams to stop your fabric from fraying, and you’ll be testing your skills on the sewing machine by learning to topstitch neatly. A crucial skill!
When you come back to us for your second day of sewing you’ll be getting stuck in to sewing up a zipped toiletries bag. Making the toiletries bag will help you conquer a classic sewing skill… inserting a zip! If you ever fancy going into garment sewing then this will be invaluable!
In the last session of your weekend, you’ll be learning how to alter the clothes you already own. We encourage you to bring in a couple of items you’d like to tweak and Lisa will talk you through how to make the changes to get them fitting perfectly.
Since opening Sew Over It, Lisa has taught thousands of beginners to take their first steps on the sewing machine. She’s our ultimate beginners teacher and is sure to inspire you to carry on sewing with her infectious enthusiasm for the craft!
We like to keep our class sizes small at Sew Over It, giving you lots of one on one time with your teacher and the opportunity to ask as many questions as you can think of! The maximum class size for Learn to Sew with Lisa is eight.
Included in the price of the course:
A choice of a selection of fabrics for the cushion cover, drawstring bag & toiletry bag, a cushion pad for your cushion, a zip for your toiletries bag, a guide to threading a sewing machine and lots of tea and treats!
You will need to bring:
Some garments to alter for the last session, nothing else!
After your class:
We know it can be tricky to remember everything you learn in the class, so to help you we’ve made a series of video tutorials to refresh your memory. Once the course is complete, we will email you a link to a series of downloadable tutorials made by Lisa. And there are extras projects on there too! Click here for a preview!
