Sewing Level
The Ava Skirt is a beginner level sewing pattern, perfect for those who know how to use a sewing machine and want to move onto dressmaking.
Fancy some extra help?
If you’d like some extra help, the Ava Skirt (and two other patterns!) is also available as part of our Beginners Guide to Dressmaking online class on Stitch School, which comes with both video tutorials as well as illustrated written instructions.
Fabric Suggestions
For the Ava Skirt we recommend medium to heavy weight woven fabrics with some structure, such as denim, cotton poplin, cotton canvas, brocade, viscose linen and wools. For the pockets, we recommend a finer fabric such as cotton lawn.
Fabric Requirements
The Ava Skirt PDF sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 8-20. See the chart for details on fabric requirements.
Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
What will I receive?
The downloadable pattern file contains:
- printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
- fully-photographed printable instruction booklet
- imperial/metric conversion size chart
- copyshop permission letter
The tiled print-at-home Ava Skirt PDF sewing pattern is 24 A4 pages, 24 US letter pages or 1 A0 page long.
If you purchase the PDF Pattern + Copyshop Printing option, you will also receive your pattern printed on A0 paper in the post. Find out more about our PDF Printing Service here.
So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
Never used a PDF pattern before and would like some help? Learn everything you need to know in our handy Guide to Assembling PDF Patterns over on our blog!
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A DOWNLOADABLE PATTERN WHICH YOU HAVE TO PRINT AT HOME. At the end of the checkout process you will receive an email with the link to your pattern and instructions.
Happy sewing!
