The Whitley Top is suitable for advanced beginners.
Fancy some extra help?
If you’d like some extra help, the Whitley Top pattern is also available as part of our Make a Bias Cut Top online class on Stitch School, which comes with both video tutorials as well as illustrated written instructions. You’ll also find video tutorials on turning the Whitley Top into a dress with a gathered skirt on Stitch School too.
The Whitley Top is designed to be sewn in lightweight woven fabrics. Cotton lawn is a great choice for beginners as it is fairly stable, whilst something like viscose and crepe will give the top more drape. For an extra special make, sandwashed silk or crepe de Chine would be lovely. Whitley makes a great base to show off vibrant prints but would also work as a classic plain top to add to a capsule wardrobe.
The Whitley Top PDF sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 8-20, with four cup size options (A-B, C-D, E-F, G-H). Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
The downloadable pattern file contains:
- printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format) in all sizes
- fully-illustrated printable instruction booklet
The Whitley Top pattern is either 30 A4 or US letter pages for the A-D cup sizes, 33 A4 or US letter pages for the E-H cup sizes, or 3 A0 copyshop pages.
If you purchase the PDF Pattern + Copyshop Printing option, you will also receive your pattern printed on A0 paper in the post. Find out more about our PDF Printing Service here.
So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
