Looking for a new hobby? Our sewing classes in London could be for you!
Whether you’re squeezing onto tubes as you rush to get to the office, or navigating the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, living in London especially can make for a busy, full and often stressful life. For us it’s essential to have that after-work or weekend escape. Carving out some time for ourselves without having to think about emails, spreadsheets and deadlines has become crucial, and it’s no surprise that the hobby that we like to indulge in is sewing.
Sewing is a great way to relax – not to mention an amazing way to grow your wardrobe! You only have to look at online community projects such as Me Made May and The Refashioners to see what a positive impact sewing and dressmaking is having on people’s lives. With mental health problems skyrocketing, sewing is a way to be mindful, stay in the present and get stuck in to a satisfying, rewarding project. We are firm believers that sewing is good for you!
Social media is a hugely valuable tool for connecting with the ever-growing community of sewing lovers around the world – browse through the #sewcialists hashtag on Instagram and you’ll see people sharing their makes, recommending patterns and giving advice to other sewers. But we know that this otherwise quite solitary sport can be intimidating to those completely new to sewing – if you don’t know where to begin, the minefield of advice can be confusing. That’s why for those who’d like some initial help getting started, physical sewing classes are invaluable. Here you can meet people at the same stage as you and enjoy learning and growing together.

Since we opened six years ago we have taught over 6000 people to sew, and this year we gave our bestselling beginners sewing class a makeover. Intro to Sewing is the place to start for beginners. Even if you have never seen a sewing machine before, this course will give you the confidence to work on a whole variety of sewing projects. We will start from scratch, showing you how to thread the sewing machine, before building your skills with our three tailor-made projects. By the end of the course you will have even made your first steps into dressmaking with a super cute pair pyjama shorts.
Making your own clothes is cool again! Fashioning your own wardrobe means that you can create exactly what you want to wear, instead of having to rely on the high street. In our beginners dressmaking class, Intro to Dressmaking we set you on your way to achieving a personalised, unique wardrobe with a whole new set of skills you can use again and again. We start by showing you how to work from and pattern, and by the end of the course you’ll have sewn your very first skirt. All our Intro to Dressmaking teachers are expert dressmakers and will pass on all their best tips and tricks.
If you’re in it for the long haul, fast-track your sewing skills with the Learn to Sew bundle. Whether you’re joining us for a class or stitching away at home, we hope sewing is having a positive effect on your life. And whatever you’re making, don’t forget to share on social media. You can find us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, spreading the sewing love.
