Silk Cami Sewalong No. 1: Gathering Supplies and Choosing Your Fabric

This sewalong focuses on gathering your supplies and choosing the right fabric for your Silk Cami.

What will I need?
To make your Silk Cami, you're going to need the following:

- Silk Cami pattern and instructions
- Fabric
- Matching Thread
- A selection of sewing supplies: fabric scissors or rotary cutter, paper scissors, sellotape or gluestick, hand sewing needle, pins, tape measure, stitch ripper and, of course, a sewing machine!

Choosing fabric

Won't lie, the clue is in the name! We designed the cami to be made in silk, as we wanted to introduce a slightly trickier fabric to our more confident students. However, if you're not feeling up to silk, you can go with anything lightweight and drapey.

All of the following fabrics will work:
- Silk (we like crepe de Chine and sandwashed silk the best)
- Rayon (also called viscose)
- Georgette
- Cotton lawn
- Lightweight crepes
- Satin

How much fabric will I need?

Depending on which size you're making, you'll need different amounts of fabric for your Silk Cami. See our handy size chart below:
