Party season is here and even if gatherings this year are looking a little smaller or more digital, we’re still planning on dressing up to the nines in our fanciest makes. We might just pair them with slippers instead of heels à la life in 2020.
Whether you’re getting dolled up for virtual work dos, family get-togethers or New Year’s Eve celebrations, we’ve got a sewing pattern for you. And don’t worry, if you’re not a dress wearer, we’ve got an idea or two up our (handmade) sleeves for you too.
Here’s what we’re sewing up to see us into the new year:
Betty is one of our all-round favourite dresses and with the long sleeve add-on, it’s a perfect make for Christmas parties and family get-togethers. You can choose the right neckline to suit you too, so it’s a dress you’ll wear party-in party-out.
Our ultimate party dress, Elsie is a real head-turner. Drawing on ’50s fashion trends and featuring flattering princess seams and dramatic pleats, Elsie is the pattern to go for if you’re looking for a sophisticated make. We love using a dazzling fabric like brocade or jacquard to sew up a real statement look.
Dresses aren’t for everyone and the Farrah Jumpsuit is an alternative party classic. The jumpsuit is comfortable too, which is just what’s needed if you’re getting dressed up to stay in. Style with statement jewellery to keep things video-call chic, or throw on a pair of heels if you are leaving home comforts behind and heading out to an event.
We can’t stop dreaming about the Georgie in velvet and think we’ll be wearing ours made from this stretch velvet all party season long. The long sleeves are just what’s needed when it’s a little nippy and the wrap style makes it a truly timeless party dress.
If you’re looking for a simple make or you’re a beginner dressmaker, the Grace Dress is the one for you. Available as part of our Intro to Dressmaking Stitch School course, we’ll take you through each stage of sewing your own dress. The great thing about Grace too is that you could wear the versatile dress (and show off your sewing skills!) all year round.
Lizzie Skirt and Silk Cami combo
Our last party-perfect look is for all you skirt-lovers! Sew up our Lizzie Skirt in an eye-catching fabric, pair with our Silk Cami and you’re good to dance! You can really add your own twist on this outfit through the matching or contrasting fabrics you choose, making it a really fun choice to see you through the end of year festivities.
