After the success of our Cowl Neck Dress class we decided we wanted to introduce more classes designed for stretch fabrics.
Day-to-day we live in jersey, but as it requires a different set of skills to sew, we find a lot of our customers are scared of it. So we wanted to tackle that by designing a new pattern and launching a new class specially to learn all the essential techniques.
When coming up with the designs, I thought long and hard about what kind of patterns would be nice for your wardrobe. I wanted the dress to suit different figures, be versatile enough for you to put your own stamp on it, and for it to take you from day to night.
I asked the wonderfully talented Sue, our jersey specialist, to work her magic creating the patterns. We came up with two lovely dresses…
Ruched Jersey Dress
This design gives you the opportunity to learn to sew jersey on a regular sewing machine, and finish on the overlocker – very professional!
There are two neckline options: the higher one shown in my dress here, or a scooped version for all those ladies with a bigger bust.
We will teach you how to sew the flattering ruche detailing down the sides of the dress, and you will also learn how to put in a facing and attach a sleeve.
Here you will also learn how to use a regular sewing machine to sew jersey, before finishing on the overlocker.
The design features a gathered waist, yoke shoulders and so many options for personalisation with the different panels. You could go wild with colour-blocking or keep it all the same shade for a classic look.
I ummed and ahhed for ages and in the end I couldn’t choose between these two designs. And so I thought who better to choose than you guys…
