Winter Wardrobe: chapter one

I have been planning my winter wardrobe for a couple of months – waiting for it to get cold. I love autumn and I love winter clothes – I feel more confident. My legs look a lot better in tights than they do in the flesh! Plus I am very pale and looking golden and tanned in the summer is like fighting a losing battle. But once the cold weather started I remembered that it is harder to wear dresses I love in the winter as they are too cold. So I popped to M&S and invested in some thermal vests and bought some of my favourite cropped cardis from Fever London. So now I can wear my favourite dresses and not feel the cold!

I decided to make a couple of Betty’s. The first one was for our launch party at Islington and for the photoshoot we did for publicity. THe fabric is a wool mix (it’s available in the Islington shop to buy!). Instead of using the facing I bagged it out with a cotton to line the bodice so it wouldn’t itch.

This other Betty is 100% wool. This was lined in acetate lining. It hangs so beautifully and the skirt looks wonderfully full even without a petticoat.

And finally I made a Joan dress in bottle green. Joan takes me longer to sew than Betty so she doesn’t get as much attention but she is just as flattering and when I put her on I feel so sophisticated. Plus she has sleeves so I don’t have to worry about wearing a cardi!

So I think I have my dresses covered. I might make a couple of extra Ultimate Shifts in warm fabrics. But next up is definitely trousers. I now need to make some more Ultimate Trousers to get me through. Any ideas on what fabric I should use???
