The Ultimate Trousers are an advanced beginner level sewing pattern. We recommend you have experience making a couple of garments, but there’s no need to have made trousers before.
Fancy some extra help?
The Ultimate Trousers pattern is also available as part of our Ultimate Guide to Sewing & Fitting Trousers online class, which comes with both video tutorials as well as photographed written instructions. You can also pick up some extra tips in Julie’s fitting tutorial.
As well as our online class, extra help can also be found in our Ultimate Trousers Sewalong on our blog!
We recommend a medium to heavy weight woven fabric such as cotton, wool, crepe or denim for this pattern. Anything with a small amount of stretch (around 3%) will make for an extra comfy fit. For a loose, summery look you could also try rayon or other lightweight drapey fabric. You will also need a 9″ invisible zip.
The Ultimate Trousers sewing pattern comes in UK sizes 8-20. See the chart for details on fabric requirements.
Like all our patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.
What will I receive?
The downloadable pattern file contains:
- printable pattern (in both tiled print-at-home and copyshop format)
- illustrated printable instruction booklet
- imperial/metric conversion size chart
- copyshop permission letter
The Ultimate Trousers pattern is either 32 A4/US letter pages long, or 1 A0 copyshop sheet.
If you purchase the PDF Pattern + Copyshop Printing option, you will also receive your pattern printed on A0 paper in the post. Find out more about our PDF Printing Service here.
So what is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
