Sew a clutch bag with a bow detail with the Bow Bag PDF sewing pattern.

Complete any look with a clutch bag to match your favourite handmade outfits! We designed this little bag to be sewn out of the scraps of your me-mades, so you can put every last bit of fabric to good use and make yourself a cute accessory.

The bag features a boxed bottom and is fully lined. It closes with a regular or invisible zip and zip tabs are added at the top for a neat finish. The bow at the front is caught in the side seams and the bag is designed to be held through the bow, so it dresses up your wrist too! If a clutch bag isn’t your style, you could also add loops on the sides and use a clip-on chain/strap from a bag you already own to wear it on your shoulder. Find out how in the Bow Bag Sewalong!

The Bow Bag is small but mighty as it’s big enough to hold all your essentials (we’ve managed to fit a small Kindle in it!). It’s the perfect match for the bow version of our Sofia Dress, and a great accessory to accompany any handmade outfit.

Fabric Suggestions

We designed the Bow bag to be made to match your handmade outfits, so it can be sewn in most woven fabrics. If your outer fabric is very lightweight, like viscose, pick a sturdier fabric like canvas for the lining and add interfacing to all bag body pieces to give it structure, but leave the bow un-interfaced.

What is a PDF pattern?

A PDF pattern is a downloadable pattern that you print yourself at home on A4 or US letter paper. Alternatively you can choose to have the copyshop files printed on large A0 paper, and posted to you at home. If you’re using the A4 or US letter options, simply download, print at home, tape together and let the sewing begin! When you print the pattern, print at 100% (you might have to uncheck the scale box). Print page 1 first, the square should measure 10cm x 10cm.
